Free Updates Every School Year!
As an elementary special education teacher, I always worked on calendar skills. It was something we did in my room, as well as something my students would do in their regular classroom for morning work before they came to me. Our classroom calendars might have visually been a little different, but the same basic calendar skills and concepts were being taught and reinforced. Now, teaching at the middle/high school special education level, I realize how even more important those basic calendar skills are – from the students writing upcoming test dates in their planners to writing the date on their practice checks. So, when I was asked to create a “calendar flip folder,” I was more than excited!
“My Calendar Flip Folder” is the perfect calendar resource to use with any classroom calendar you already have, and with any classroom calendar you might purchase in the future. This was designed to be basic and easy to adapt to any calendar routine you do – at any grade level or any ability level. With the covers being all the same, the inside can be adapted to meet a specific child’s need, with the entire class not knowing someone’s folder is different from theirs. All concepts on the inside are exactly the same, just vary in ability level to make it easy to accommodate all students.
Multiple options for use have been provided, along with with photos. These folders can be assembled for ability levels ranging from students just beginning to learn the days of the week and months of the year, to those students who need extra help on writing the date and keeping track of important events coming up that month.
Please note that like all of my flip folders these do take some time to assemble. However, once assembled these are good to use for the entire year! If you are like me and have your students year after year, you can also use these year after year! At most you will only have to switch out calendars (if you choose that option of use) or adjust the level of calendar knowledge after a few weeks/months of use.
